Comment Verification

My apologies to everyone as today I had to implement a comment verification that will make you have to type in one of those annoying word verification boxes before you can post a comment.  I tried to let it be open and easy for as long as possible but the spammers have gotten to a point that I'm getting approximately 50 spam comments a day and it's getting taxing to have to clean up so much and making my little hobby here not so fun. :(

  1. I can relate. I'm just leaving the spam comments and not deleting them. Is that a problem?

    1. I'm honestly not sure if it's an issue or not to leave them. I noticed some high traffic on a post that I wouldn't expect traffic after I had left a spam comment on there for a few days. It made me worry that they were somehow doing some sort of linking or weird re-trafficing or something. I really don't know if they were or if I was being paranoid and I haven't read up much on it.

  2. I know exactly what you mean. It's darn annoying!
The problem I see with leaving them is they seem to have some internal network to let each other know if someone is a bit lax. I found when I left comments alone that there were dozen and dozen more on the very same post. Whereas we recently implemented an approval process now so everything goes to admin for approval and the number of spam posts I have to deal with has gone way down. Doing something like this is annoying for certain but it's better than spam, AND I get a little buzz every time I deny them! I giggle to myself and mentally say Ha! I beat you ! (yes I have been compared to a child!)

    1. I haven't had a single spam comment to deny or otherwise since I started using the word verification. I love it!
